Who we are

The Minneapolis Natural Areas Alliance is a coalition of stewardship leaders, volunteers, and supporters dedicated to protecting and restoring designated Natural Areas across Minneapolis parks. Together, we advocate for increased public investment in ecological restoration to ensure these spaces thrive for generations to come.

We believe Minneapolis can lead the region—and the nation—in restoring high-quality, biodiverse, equitably distributed, and climate-resilient ecosystems. From the Mississippi River Gorge to the Chain of Lakes, from Minnehaha Falls Park to Theodore Wirth Park, and across neighborhood parks and connecting green corridors, our city’s park system is a powerful ecological and community asset.

Minneapolis embraces a nature-focused identity—“City of Lakes,” “City in a Park,” and “City by Nature” (courtesy of Meet Minneapolis). Now is the time to match that identity with meaningful investment. By prioritizing restoration and stewardship of our Natural Areas, the city can deepen its commitment to environmental health, climate resilience, and equitable access to nature.

We have the Natural Areas. Now we must invest in them.
